Automating Produce Alignment
The Challenge:
Onions vary widely in shape, size, and color. The vision system had to deliver precise alignment in a harsh environment with corrosion, water, and challenging sanitation regimes.
The Motivo Solution:
Motivo studied the existing process, then designed a robust, modular system that could integrate with standard food-slicing equipment. Using in-house laser cutting and 3D printing, the team built a prototype with stepper-motor-driven clamping arms for two-axis control.
AI vision and custom neural networks were created to identify onion root and tip orientation. Vision data informed alignment algorithms that rotated each onion precisely.
