Ourselves! This was a Motivo internal project to improve the lives of our employees while reflecting the culture of our company.

REQUIREMENTS

Motivo needed a collaborative working space for clients when they are on-site. Specifically, we required a space that could be wheeled into the project bays while still providing sound insulation, power and connectivity, air conditioning, and other typical conference room features. Additionally, having a solution for offsite track testing, or an all-inclusive option for our Bay Area office was enticing.

Many options were considered, including a shipping container, but that would be hard to move and would require fire sprinklers installed, raising costs.

CHALLENGE

We had seen a number of vehicles converted into meeting and working spaces, but they often lacked sufficient or a well designed space for collaboration. We decided on an Airstream base as it provided the largest amount of collaborative space, could be easily towed, but also had no engine we had to compensate for.

The Airstream camper was designed to be lived in and had many features, such as plumbing, that were no longer needed. The holes for these features needed to be closed while maintaining a clean, smooth look on the inside and outside.
Alternative options other than an Airstream were considered, including a shipping container, but that would be hard to move and would require fire sprinklers installed, raising costs.

MOTIVO’S SOLUTION

The interior of the trailer was gutted to give a fresh start, while new flooring, a conference table, benches, lighting, and TV were installed to provide a work/meeting area. The trailer was outfitted with 120V AC outlets for laptops and other electronics. All of the exterior plumbing for the camper was removed along with any unnecessary exterior features. The holes left behind in the sides were covered with new exterior aluminum skins, and riveted on to match the original look of the trailer. Once the exterior was completed, the entire trailer was polished to its original vibrant shine.

OUTCOME

Motivo converted the used Airstream camper into a modern conference room and work space in less than 2 months. This space has provided our customers a unique and dedicated workspace when they are on-site at Motivo, and shows a promising future for offsite work.
